My favorite food - pizza. I could eat it daily.



Pizza is one of the most popular foods in America, and for good reason. It's delicious, it's easy to eat on the go, and it can be customized to suit any taste. Whether you like your pizza with pepperoni or pineapple, there's a pie out there for you.


But what makes pizza so great? Is it the dough? The sauce? The cheese? We think it might just be all of those things – and more. Read on to learn everything there is to know about pizza, from its history to its many variations.


A Brief History of Pizza


Pizza has been around for centuries, but it didn't always look like the pies we know today. The first pizzas were more like flatbreads, and they were often topped with vegetables or fish. It wasn't until the 18th century that tomatoes were added to the mix, creating the red sauce that we still use today.


Cheese was also not originally part of the pizza equation. It wasn't until 1889 that cheese was added to a pizza recipe (by a man named Raffaele Esposito), creating what we now know as Margherita pizza. From there, other toppings were added and different regional styles began to emerge. New York-style pizza is thin and crispy, while Chicago-style is deep-dish and hearty. No matter where you are in the world, though, chances are you can find a delicious slice of pizza nearby.


The Many Variations of Pizza


As we mentioned before, there are nearly limitless possibilities when it comes to topping your pizza pie. Pepperoni is always a classic choice, but if you're feeling adventurous you could try something new like anchovies or eggplant. And don't even get us started on dessert pizzas – yes, they exist, and they're usually pretty amazing (especially if they involve chocolate).
